Restoring Leaders to God's Calling, God's Office, and God's Anointing
This document is meant to be used, where possible and intended by the Holy Spirit, as a guideline for the restoration of leaders and ministers who have fallen or failed in some particular area of life. Restoration and recertification for their re-entry or continuance in the ministry is essential!
Calling: The goal is the full restoration of the man or woman that he/she might be able to fulfill the call that is on his or her life. This calling was given them by the sovereign decree of the Almighty. This calling is without repentance!
Office: The office represents the official place of authority to which the servant of God is called in order to fulfill his/her calling. This is the position, title, and rank necessary for them to use their faith and authority to fulfill their call. This is the appointing of the Lord!
Anointing: The anointing is the bestowing of gifts and graces by God which are utilized in the life of this minister in order to ratify the call and office and to operate in the office and fulfill the calling in his/her life.
Covenant: The Kingdom works by covenant relationships. All have been called to know and walk with the fallen person or persons; all must be committed to restoration of the individual and to relationship with him or her. To violate this commitment is to stand in defiance of the will of a Sovereign God. It is similar to seeking to divide and put asunder the covenant of marriage, which is between two people who are supernaturally joined by God.
“Whatever God has joined together, let no man put asunder!”
Not being committed to restoration is to be a covenant breaker, seeking to destroy covenants made between God and man! Since the Kingdom works by covenant, to be unwilling to restore covenant relationships means we stand in defiance of God's purpose and plan. This means we become a hindrance to God's work in the earth . . . and now God has to resist us!
THE STEPS OF RESTORATION
Steps 1-9 are covenants made by those who oversee the restoration process! Galatians 6
1. WHEN YOU SEE YOUR BROTHER - Brethren when you see your brother overtaken in a fault, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of meekness less you also are tempted.
2. YOU WHO ARE SPIRITUAL - When dealing with a senior leader of a team, you must involve other spiritual leaders, those outside the local team, to minister the issues. Leaders closest to the issue are often unable to see through their hurt and disillusionment and will sometimes react in judgment or retaliation. The restoration team should be acknowledged by all in writing so that in the event of a crisis there can be no political motives in selecting the authority to judge.
3. RESTORE SUCH A ONE - The goal is to save and restore the person to God's calling, to the office bestowed on him or her by God, and to the anointing given by God. This means that every relationship should be mended and every wrong put under the blood of the Redeemer because His Kingdom works by Covenant Relationships paid for by His shed blood.
4. SPIRIT OF MEEKNESS - Meekness is self-control and humility. When bringing discipline to the body of Christ, one must not be self-willed or angry. Only God’s heart and mind can be represented. To judge a matter when angry creates a scenario whereby you touch the anointed of the Lord. "Touch not my anointed ones and do my prophets no harm."
5. CONSIDERING YOURSELVES LESS YOU ALSO ARE TEMPTED - Remove your beam to see their splinter. With the same measure that you judge others, you will be judged.
6. REQUIRES ACCESS - To restore a leader means that you must talk him/her through many pathways of the mind. Feelings of depression, discouragement, self-defense, self pity, anxiety, anger, confusion, etc. all accompany the fallen. Sometimes demonic activity is involved and needs to be confronted and expelled.
7. REQUIRES RESOURCES - Wisdom, time, availability, finances, sabbaticals, counseling, health care, etc., need to be considered.
8. REQUIRES DISCERNMENT AND WISDOM - This process needs maturity and keen insight. The ability to hear from God is paramount.
9. LOVE COVERS A MULTITUDE OF SIN - As much as possible, the failures of others should to be covered. Of course, those who have been violated or harmed must be involved so that victims become victors, and relationships are healed. However, it does not serve God’s interest or represent His heart (or nature) to openly expose the sin of others when there is repentance from the heart. Go behind the curtain of love to deal with the issues so that when you come out the honor can quickly and easily return to the restored leader.
THE PROCESS OF RESTORATION:
II SAMUEL 12:20.... “Restoring the Fallen” / “After the Baby Dies”
1. ACKNOWLEDGE THE FAILURE- RUN TO JUDGMENT - AIDE IN YOUR OWN PROSECUTION - The difference between David and Saul was that Saul defended himself and David ran to judgment. David knew that God was just and true, but also merciful and full of loving-kindness. He threw himself on the mercies of the Lord rather than denying his sin. Saul lost his office, call, and anointing to stand in the office and fulfill the call, David did not!
2. ACCEPT THE TERMS OF RESTORATION SET BY THOSE WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY IS TO OVERSEE THE PROCESS - Bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance. Follow thru with and complete the steps from the heart that mature leaders have required. Before God, do all that you can to cooperate with the process, as God will reveal Himself afresh and anew to you in this way. Listen for His voice and heed what He says.
3. ARISE - When it is over, you must arise. Sometimes men must be helped in the process. Forgiving oneself is the key here.
4. WASH - The stain a reproach of past failures must be washed away. The process is over... you do not need to see yourself still under judgment of any kind. Shame, shyness and guilt are all washed away
5. ANOINT- The anointing of the Lord will return as you stir up the gift within you.
6. CLOTHE - Return to the Calling. Put on the garments of priesthood or Kingship that are necessary to do the job you are called to do.
7. GO THE TEMPLE - Return to the Office. Go to the place or field of service
8. WORSHIP - Glorify God by returning to the work that brings glory and honor to Him. Stand in the Office and fulfill the Calling under the unction and anointing of the Holy Spirit.
